In the same way that the United States celebrates the 4th of July, México and several Latin American countries observe their independence during the month of September, including Belize, Brazil, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Chile. Sea Mar’s Fiestas Patrias celebrates independence of these and all countries of Latin America.

The annual Fiestas Patrias celebration reminds us that the spirit of freedom is indomitable and helps maintain a bond between Latinos in the Northwest and their home countries throughout the Americas.

Fiestas Patrias 2013 begins with a community, family-oriented parade on Saturday, September 14, 11:00 am, in the South Park neighborhood of Seattle (near Boeing airfield). The parade features spectacular dancing horses, floats, marching bands, students, and children in traditional Latin American dress. A community Fiesta featuring a health fair, horse show, children activities, and much more follows the parade.

Also, at the Seattle Center, two days of Fiestas Patrias activities get underway at noon on Saturday, ending with a dance featuring the best salsa and Tex-Mex music in the Northwest. Family activities continue through Sunday evening. For two days, families enjoy the culture, art, music, dance, and delicious Mexican and Latin American food.
